Harry Ferrier

Harry Ferrier 1973 in a 1912 Silver Ghost (2175)

This picture taken around 1973 show my father Harry Ferrier sitting in the drivers seat of a 1912 Silver Ghost, Chassis number: 2175.

At the age of fourteen my father (Harry) was filling in the time it was taking to find new business premises, cleaning cars at the local Rolls-Royce and Bentley main dealers (Hadley Green Garage, High Barnet). After a while he was trusted to deliver customer cars after repair and servicing. On one occasion this 1912 Silver Ghost (2175), owned at the time by the owner of H.R.Owen, was at the garage and my father was photographed sitting in the car. Note only one person at the garage was authorised to drive the car.

This photograph was enlarged, framed and hung in our home. I looked at this photograph many times. It was this photograph, that inspired my ambition to, first own a Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost.

Philip Hall of the R-REC was able to furnish me with the following details about the car (Thank you Philip):

The car was originally a limousine with a body by Kellner. It was supplied to Niclai Kondtratnieff of Russia. The body shown in the photograph is by Woodall Nicholson and dates from around 1964. The car was bought by the previously well-known and now deceased Graham Heals for 20 GBP in 1953. The R-REC do not have any record of where the car is now, but know that it was owned by H R Owen Limited in 1982.

This is a very special picture to me as it is this picture that I saw as a young boy that inspired me to hanker after, first a Rolls-Royce and then a Silver Ghost.
