Social A wide range of social events, ranging from ballroom dancing to beetle drives and talks on local history are arranged by the social committee. Mother's Union St John's has a long established branch of the Mother's Union that meets monthly in the church meeting room. The Union organises talks and outings and fully participates in the work of the Union. Please contact the Church Secretary for further details via the webmaster. St. John's Cricket and Rugby League Heritage Sir John Ramsden enabled St John's the use of open land in Fartown for cricket. The church team was formed in 1866; clergy being actively involved in membership and administration. In 1872 a merger with Huddersfield Athletic club allowed them to develop rugby league at the site, and Fartown became a famous venue for the Huddersfield Rugby League Club, the Huddersfield Cricket Club and the Yorkshire County Cricket Club. In recent years the church has made strenuous efforts to re-establish cricket at Fartown in negotiation with Kirklees Local Authority. Regretfully the area remains too uneven and continues use for rugby training What's On at St John's? Follow this link for our social events. Where to find us. Here's how to find St.John's Church |
