Download Area
In
order to save myself money, I have now stored ALL of Fin-S in this
download area for access. This means that anybody can get at it to have a look.
However, the one thing that is protected in this download area is the Macro
Library (i.e. all the code), so you cannot use the scoring system from the
stuff you can download from here. To save YOU money, I have broken up the User
Manual into parts, so that if you don't need the complex scoring bits, you
don't have to download it.
So
what can you download from here? There are five files, each of which are
self-expanding Zips (see below).

This file (887 kb) contains all the Excel spreadsheets which are used in Fin-S V6.3 |

This file (411 kb) contains all the separate movement libraries which are available in Fin-S V6.3 |
|
|
This (1240 kb) contains the first 5 chapters of the User Manual, which contain all the bits you need if all you want to do is to score Duplicate Pairs for a Club, and also chapter 16, which covers EBUMPI. |
|
|
This (1998 kb) contains the remaining chapters of the User Manual, which contain all the bits you need for scoring more complicated events - Teams, Individuals, Swiss Pairs, etc. |
|
|
This (932 kb) contains the maclib.xls file, password protected, that you must install in the C:\ directory of your machine. |
Installing the Software
Obviously,
it is a good idea to take backups of the delivered software so that you can
re-install in the event of loss or disk failure. Once you have downloaded the
files, double-click them under Windows Explorer to expand them - this means
that one executable will become a number of other files. The files should
expand to these:

These
files are Excel spreadsheets and rich text files (plus one Microsoft Access 95
™ database file) as you can see from the file extensions, one for each of the Fin-S
modules. These should all be stored on your hard disk - I suggest putting the
spreadsheets in "C:\Program Files\fin-s" and the User Manual in a
sub-directory of that called "usm".
To
complete your installation, you need to mail me for the password in order to
expand the Macro Library (maclib.xls), which MUST be installed in your C:\
directory. The Toolbars will only run correctly when this file is installed in
this precise location (even if all your other software is on D:\ or E:\!). Use
any method you are comfortable with to move the file. Once it is there, open it
under Excel (enabling Macros) to make the Toolbars visible. If you are
upgrading from a previous Version of Fin-S, then use View / Toolbars /
Customize to DELETE all the existing Fin-S Toolbars before you open the
new maclib.xls.
The
only thing I would recommend is that after copying all files to your local
disk, you make them READ ONLY. For example, under Windows 95 or NT, use Windows
Explorer to access the Properties of the file and then use the Read-Only check
box on the General page. If you are not comfortable with how to do this in your
environment, then ask for support.
