Monday
Waking up in time for a good hotel breakfast was nice. The owner had been wondering where I was at breakfast time for the last two days. I did the rest of my packing, and went down to pay the bill. There was a little bottle of ouzo, compliments of the hotel, and a small container of oregano waiting for me. Folks, I really, really recommend the Ippokampos Hotel when you are staying on Hydra.
Then it was the usual routine, coffee by the hydrofoil stop, say goodbye to the few people who were around, and get the hydrofoil to Pireas. It went at full speed, which was good. I only had to wait about ten minutes in Karaiskakis Square before the X96 bus took me to the airport. I had a long time to wait at the airport, so I fished out my Asus and looked for WiFi connections. The airport has a free connection, which is excellent. Unfortunately, what they don't tell you is that you can only use it for 45 minutes. If I had known that, I would have made better use of it. There are also OTEnet connections that I think required pre-payment.
There were no CDs I wanted in the Rebetiko section of the CD shop, but I did finally have time to look at the small museum in the airport, and it was very interesting. I got home eventually, so the hours waiting were worth it, and much more comfortable than last year's journey back!
