Steve Harrison : Potter
Since October 2001 Steve has been working on the designs of new handles and spouts and a range of bosses for use where handles meet the main body of pieces. This has involved the laborious carving and scaling down of these elements and then the making of a two part moulds for the hollow elements. From the Easter 2002 firing we selected a number of pieces which ranged in price from 30-300 pounds. These include a number of one-off pieces with handles in a transitional form as well as new shape pieces showing the elements that will appear on new work. In particular a new coffee pot and straight sided jug in light brown and straight sided jug and tankard in blue. There were also a range of small teapots and some unusual knob handled small jugs. Steve is also still experimenting with porcelain pieces and has some exciting prototype porcelain tankards, white with yellow/brown bottom. These also employ the bosses developed for the standard range of items. Once the production of these pieces is perfected we will offer some for sale. We have had a few white porcelain bowls with wonderful salt glaze pools inside. In October 2002 Steve produced some monumental jugs one of which is on display in the gallery and is detailed below and at the other end of the spectrum some delightful small mugs with 3 part construction handles.
