High ceilings mean "hugely" high stairwells and this also means an array of ladders, planks and other objects which enable one to reach the "difficult" corners

It would appear as though I'm giving orders!

Amongst the building work, one of the bedrooms, holes in the roof, installing showers and bathrooms and trying to keep things as dust free as possible.

Overall the decorating and none structural part of the project was undertaken to make Manymead "fit for purpose" in the 21st century. Much of the plumbing and the majority of the electrics were in serious need of refurbishment and in many cases replacement. Some of it was possible and some was not. The plumbing was the greatest challenge and there were a number of compromises which were necessary, however where it could improved, it was, and where it could not, alternatives were sought which would offer some improvement. There is still more decorating to do, (the Forth Bridge syndrome), but we have deliberately been patient to identify whether ideas that have already been put into practise work, so far this seem to have been the case. Having operated for 12 months it seems that we have been sensibly pragmatic in our attempts and Manymead works very well. More decorating shortly! (July 2008)
