Postcard 98-02

I produced this card of the Chilean battleship "Almirante Latorre" for two reasons. This is the only British Dreadnought type battleship (the ship was formerly H.M.S. Canada which fought in WW1) in the canal that has been photographed as far as I am aware, and secondly the British Chilean Naval attaché kindly sent me detailed answers to all my questions on Navy transits of the canal zone. This particular transit was to bring to Chile ships, ordered before the start of WW1. The flotilla consisted of the Battleship "Latorre", torpedo boats "Riveros", "Uribe" and "Williams" plus the tug "Sibbald". The "Latorre" served Chile through to 1959, when she was scrapped at Yokohama Japan.
