Brief Club History
Began as Colchester Trampoline Club in 1974.
Name changed to Hi-Tension T.C. in 1987.
THE 'HIGHS AND LOWS' IN THE HISTORY OF
HI-TENSION
- 1974
- Colin Moore starts the (then) only trampoline club in Colchester, then known
as COLCHESTER TRAMPOLINE CLUB. The club was more of an adult recreational affair back
then.
- 1980
- Clive Salmon joins the club, shortly after Ian Osborne.
- 1986
- The club becomes more competitive, when John Kesterton joins the club from
Crystal Flyers(LSE Division).
1987 - The name changes to
Hi-Tension Trampoline Club following an internal naming competition. The club hosts the
National Schools final at Colchester Sports Centre, with prizes presented by Sue
Shotton, the 1984 World Champion. Debbie Sargent of Colne High School comes 6th
in the national Schools final in 1986. The club is on a real high.
Late 1980s - Several coaches' leave simultaneously due to various
reasons, and the sports centre closes for refurbishment. The club is forced to relocate
for two years in which time many performers also left. The club is left with only one
coach and four performers.
Early 1990s - The club returns to Colchester Leisure World
and begins to grow in both coaches and performers.
1995 - Highwoods Trampoline Club starts at Highwoods Sports Centre, Colchester.
Today - The club has 30 performers
and 6 regular coaches (Clive Salmon, Crystelle Mills, Dave Allworthy, Amanda Robson, Sue
Waller-Toyne and Heather Aspinall), plus good parental support and generous sponsors.
Over the years, numerous coaches have contributed to the success of the club,
several of whom are here today. From the 1996 the club has had performers in a number of
National Finals: Schools, Colleges, Grade B and Grade A.
Hi-Tension would like to thank everyone who has been involved with the club to date,
without their time and effort the club would not be where it is today.
The idea now is to keep this level of progress going as long as possible........
