Steyr-Mannlicher LP-10
LP-10
Well I bought another one of these, so I thought this time it would be a good time to review it as I haven't done a review for a year or so (lazy)..I have been shooting the SAM K11 and the Morini 162EI for the previous 2 seasons with good results, but he SAM always had the edge for me as the grip was set at the right angle and was more to my liking as to the trigger, sights etc.. One had to go and it was the Morini, as the only good things that I could get out of it was the trigger and build quality. Enough said. I recently saw the advert for the Rinke Grips which I gather are also for sale in the US from Don Nygord and I thought it would be a good opportunity to order one and fit it to a new LP10 to see how it would go.
The LP10 has been around now for a few years and has had good results at international level, but previously I couldn't get on with it as I couldn't get the right rake angle and I couldn't reach the factory supplied trigger (small hands). I noticed the new improvements like a gauge on the end of the cylinder that worked !. The rest was the same with the supplied Morini grip which seems to have got slimmer over the years (The original supplied on the LP-5 was better). I fitted the new grip and set it up as I like and it fitted superbly.. but I still had trouble reaching the trigger. I found and fitted an older LP-1 trigger and that did it as it is thinner. Next then was to set up the sights.
I moved them to the back of the rail and then adjusted them after a few shots . The best way I can remember to set them is to think that the word "bei" means "if". So if you shoot high you move the side knob towards the H etc.. I also adjusted the depth as it was a shade shallow. (see the RH picture). Pellet loading is easy except you have to put it into the barrel unlike the opposition.
The trigger adjustment was perfect for me, set at 550 gms, with a good 475 gm first stage so in true fashion ...I left it alone. I also changed the front sight to a 5mm as this is my preference.
Well how did I get on with it? Only to say that with all new things you try harder and once the trigger was in the right place I shot a 98 followed by two 97's (good for me !!) It seems to use a load of air as I seem to be refilling the cylinders more often than normal, but who cares !!
What else to say except the pistol with the Rinke Grip are excellent and will be the pistol of choice for this season....
