The Wanderer - Instructions

Although 'Wanderer' might resemble an old-fashioned arcade game, it is more accurately a puzzle. The first couple of levels are fairly easy, many later ones are fairly challenging. You don't have to complete them in any special order.

The player moves using the navigation arrows.

Points are scored by collecting gems from the mine. The level is completed after collecting all gems and exiting at the blue door.

Some of the gems are buried in soil that is 'consumed' as the player moves. It also supports rocks and restrains arrows. A single rock can be pushed left or right as long as there is nothing in front of it. If there is nothing under a rock it will fall. A single arrow can be pushed up or down.

Unsupported rocks fall - they kill you if you are underneath. Arrows kill you if they hit you.

Rocks and arrows are deflected by the sloping obstacles. Arrows slide over the tops of rocks.

Sometimes objects are suspended motionless when a level begins. They remain in this state until nearby movement releases them.

Balloons are found on some levels. They rise when released and can be burst by arrows or moved singly by the player. They are harmless but can obstruct movement.

Some levels have limited moves. Often, larger gems are there which award extra moves to enable a level to be completed.

Teleports move you to another location. If there are multiple teleports, they have the same destination.

There are two monster types. Yellow monsters track the player and kill on contact. To leave the level you must kill the monster with an arrow or rock. Smaller green monsters can be guided to a cage and turn into gems that you must collect. They also kill on contact but do not track the player.

Monsters move once for every move you make. If you want to stand still, press the spacebar to let them move.

To advance a level without finishing the current level, press F8.

Note that the player sprite cannot move while other sprites are moving .
