The contest takes place in the Lower Castle Park adjacent to the
historic Colchester Castle.

 | Heritage William the Conqueror's impressive
11th. century castle which has the largest surviving Norman keep ever built stands over
the Castle Park in all its splendour. For many centuries the castle kept a hidden secret,
it was built over the remains of a Roman temple dedicated to the conqueror of Britain, the
Emperor Claudius. Take time out to visit the award-winning Castle Museum.

 | Castle Park This is an oasis of horticultural
splendour in the town centre. This award winning classic Victorian park covering
some 33 acres providing a perfect setting for the Band Contest as well as fairs,festivals,
open-air concerts and displays. Within its boundary can be found a Sensory garden,
children's playground. A magnificent weeping willow provides an impressive backdrop to the
children's boating lake. You can also take a picturesque walk along the river, stroll up
the hill, through the oldest Roman wall in Britain.
