A spectacular group of waterfalls near the Bowlees Visitor Centre, Newbiggin.
There is a car park and picnic site at Bowlees, an ideal starting point for exploring Low Force and Gibson's Cave. Passing the Visitor Centre, cross the main road, through a kissing gate, a field and enter the wooded glade that hides the falls from the road side.
The rocky banks here are an excellent picnic spot and are occasionally popular with some daring bathers. Caution needs to be exercised where children are concerned as the currents can be strong.
A flimsy rope bridge crosses the river here to pick up the Pennine Way which follows the river for quite a way. Following this path up river will bring you to High Force in under an hour of moderate walking, and Cauldron Snout eventually.
