Lord Arthur Savile's Crime

by Constance Cox

(adapted from a short story by Oscar Wilde)

12 - 16 April 2006

What the critics said...

When I grow up I want to be just like David Sheridan. He was superb as Baines, the manservant of Lord Arthur in this Wildean pastiche by the Willington Players of Lord Arthur Savile's Crime. It was adjudication night and Mr Arthur Rochester justifiably praised David's performance.

He also loved Richard Pilborough's portrayal of the outrageous Herr Winkelkopf, the anarchic if unsuccessful bomber. I've yet to see anyone better Richard's comic timing.

There were other well acted performances from a strong cast: Dave Ruler, Andrea Sloman, Penny Baines, Caroline Dunk, Jeanette Carlton, Jan Hooper, Roger Still, David Armour-Chelu and others. Roger Still and his team deserve fulsome praise for the set, and Liz Mountain and Alison Cox dressed the cast stunningly with lots of very impressive costume changes.

A praiseworthy production all round. Constance Cox is no Wilde but The Players, driven along by able director David Bicker, gave her a very good showing.
