CLUB BOATS AND FACILITIES

The Club has a large stock of boats suitable for paddlers of all abilities and covering a variety of canoeing disciplines. These range from stable kayaks suitable for beginners, fast touring kayaks suitable for intermediate paddlers & racing beginners and racing kayaks for the more experienced paddler. Kayaks are generally single seater (K1s) but we also have a number of touring and racing doubles (K2s) and one racing four-seater kayak (K4). Although we keep a reasonable stock of racing K2s we only have a few racing K1s and members taking up racing are encouraged to acquire their own boats.

We also have a number of open canoes which are attracting growing interest among club members (one, two and three/four seaters) and several general purpose plastic boats.

Members enjoy the use of a well equipped clubhouse which is fitted with changing rooms and showers, central heating, a lounge area and a variety of training equipment including weights, rowing machines and paddling machines.

See below for pictures of some of the above.

Rapide K1s. These are our basic training boats. They are very comfortable and stable and can be paddled by people with no previous experience. Members will be trained to BCU one star standard in these boats.

A selection of kayaks suitable for extended touring and for beginners to racing. These are of varying degrees of speed and stablity. Boats shown are the Talisman, Discovery, Sceptre and Blenheim.

Double kayaks. The brown boat is a very fast (and wobbly) Regina racing K2. The blue boat is a stable fast touring K2.
These plastic boats are suitable for general purpose paddling. However, as they have a 'closed cockpit' design it is essential that paddlers are competent in capsize drill before using them.
An open canadian canoe. These are comfortable and stable boats suitable for use by two or more people. The club also has a couple of single-seater canoes which are a bit faster and less stable.
Our rowing machines. These provide the opportunity to improve fitness and strength, especially welcome if river conditions are such that it is not practical to paddle.
One of our paddling machines and part of our weights equipment. We also have a number of weights benches which are not shown here.
Both ladies and gents changing rooms are equipped with hot showers.
Our large and comfortable lounge area.
