The mission of Mvumi Hospital is to glorify God by contributing to the well-being of people mentally, physically and spiritually. The maxim of the hospital is taken from 2 Corinthians 5:14 " The love of Christ compels us." The goal of the hospital is "to be a self-financing, Tanzanian-led, Christian health-care facility that offers comprehensive, high quality health-care at a good price for all the people of the Diocese".

Mvumi Hospital

Mvumi Hospital is a church hospital situated in the village of Mvumi Mission in Central Tanzania and is run under the auspices of the Anglican Diocese of Central Tanganyika. The hospital provides health care for the population of Dodoma Rural District where the average life expectancy is only 46 years and over 25% of children die before the age of five. This is one of the poorest regions in the world with an estimated "income" per capita of less than 100 $ U.S. (1991/1992) which includes the market value of all economic activities such as food production, brewing, honey collecting, cattle rearing and wood gathering (Holtland, 1994). Mvumi Hospital is the only hospital in Dodoma Rural District and caters to the needs of over 400,000 people. Mvumi Mission has a population of about 10,000 people and is situated 42 km south east of Dodoma, the capital of Tanzania. This web site is designed to provide news of the work being carried out at the hospital and in the surrounding countryside for those who have worked in Mvumi, and also to provide an insight into the life of the people in one of the poorest parts of the world for those who are interested and, hopefully, for those who are not.
