Friends of Mvumi - Projects in progress

Here are some recent pictures from Mvumi showing some of the projects which Friends of Mvumi has funded in the year 2001. Thank you to all our donors for giving us the funds to allow this to happen. If you would like to help with these or any other projects at Mvumi please contact David@Mvumi.org.

Renovations to the staff houses

Due to lack of maintenance many of the staff houses, such as those shown here, have fallen into disrepair. Funding from Friends of Mvumi has however allowed renovations to start and these are well under way.

Below and right a typical staff house in need of renovation. The trench on the right will take the new sewage pipes.

Renovation of the sewage system

With joint funding from Friends of Mvumi and CSSC has allowed badly needed renovation work on the entire hospital sewage system. Seen here is one of the sewage lagoons with the newly repaired outlet tank chamber and on the right one of the inspection chambers on the main sewer leading from the hospital to the lagoons.

Building of the Clinical Officers Training School hostel

The work on the new COTC hostel has started and the foundations are already laid and shown on the right. The hostel will provide accommodation for students in keeping with the training school's new role in medical education in Tanzania.

The supervising architect visits the COTC hostel site. The project is within schedule and running to budget!

Replacement of the laboratory school desks

The Friends of Mvumi have agreed to providing funding for the renovation or replacement of the laboratory school desks. As can be seen from the photographs here the students have had to make do with whatever has been available up until now!
