Garden Walls 1 The traditional house is being
destroyed on all fronts. Even solid virtually indestructible original brick walls are
being demolished to make car parking space or are being replaced by very crude modern affairs - see examples here.
The orange brick wall shown here belongs to a group of fine
but much ruined Domestic Revival houses within a few hundred yards of where I live. The
original warm orange bricks are clearly handmade in a rustic style. The sizes of the
bricks are so irregular ranging from 6 to over 10 inches in length. I know this since I've
salvaged quite a few from nearby where a large car entrance was knocked through the
neighbouring wall opposite the intact one shown here.
The example below is also opposite and is a complete
replacement, but with the original brick pillars left intact. This only serves to heighten
the crudity of the replacement wall - So sad that people think they are improving things? Another
view of the top wall looking the other way. Note
the house fine brick wall arcading that's featured elsewhere on this web. Clearly
these house were built by real craftsmen, its so sad that the owners
appear to care so little for them, I have watched them be altered
massively in the last ten years Further
