Skimping:

Skimping a 'modern' word for thriftiness? Its the art of using your eyes and seeing somebody's cast offs for what they are and making something of it. Its not directly related to conservation but can be seen to compliment it.

So much quality stuff is being ripped out of our houses. The first place they usually end up is in a skip. This is one of the best hunting grounds for skimpers.

The examples shown here have all been rescued from skips. Putting items back to there original use is directly in accord with conservation, but reusing old good quality pitch pine as shown here is surely worthwhile.

I hope the examples shown here demonstrate the usefulness of skimping .

Fireplace - Wood taken from an old ledge and brace door found in a skip!

Table - Made from reclaimed timber from a salvage yard.

Two ledge and brace doors were rescued, this is the other one converted to garden table!

Beautiful oak Arts and Crafts style door again rescued from a skip.

I had no real use for this door so I sold it on Ebay for £120.

So I saved a fine old door and made some money doing so!!
