NOTICES

Audrey Bartron has had an accident

and is currently now back in Peterborough (from Kings Lynn where she had surgery) and is in the City Care Centre in Thorpe Road.  Apparently visits can be made from 8.00 am - 10.00 pm and Audrey would really welcome some visitors.  She has broken her hip and also has a broken arm.  At the moment her son, granddaughter and daughter in law are in the UK and staying in her flat.  However, her son and granddaughter must return home (I think to the USA).  Her daughter-in-law, who is called Ruth, will be staying on for a couple of months.  I have spoken to Ruth on the phone recently and she says Audrey is fine.  She is making progress.

Marjory Stevens - It is suspected that Marjory has had a stroke.  She is currently in Peterborough District Hospital and is allowed visitors.  It would be best to phone before visiting, to check which ward she is in.

Elders and Overseers

Afterthoughts and Notices - Please could Friends/Attenders try to speak loudly and distinctly when giving Afterthoughts and Notices, as some people are having difficulty in hearing what is being said.

'Friendly Bible Study'

―As the name suggests, it’s an approach to studying the bible by applying Quaker understandings, insights and tradition.  It focuses on the notion of that of God in everyone and that spiritual revelation is ongoing.  Personal experience is central to our spiritual lives and the Bible is used to test these experiences.  Finally we are encouraged to take our inward spiritual understanding out into our Quaker and wider community.  At the Little Gidding Quiet Day we had a taster of this form of study which seemed to be well received.  Janet Armstrong and Mick Langford have organised a further taster session for the evening of Tuesday, 19 October in the Meeting House.  We will begin the study at 7.00 p.m. and we suggest that for those able we have a shared meal before this at 6.00 p.m.  If you need a lift please contact Mick Langford.

There is no need to book - just turn up.  If you have a Bible version you prefer please bring it with you, otherwise a Bible can be provided.  No previous knowledge of the Bible is required.  The intention is to reflect upon the short passages we read together and to share our personal responses.

Advices and Queries 12 and 13 to be read in August

14. Are your meetings for church affairs held in a spirit of worship and in dependence on the guidance of God? Remember that we do not seek a majority decision nor even consensus. As we wait patiently for divine guidance our experience is that the right way will open and we shall be led into unity.

15. Do you take part as often as you can in meetings for church affairs? Are you familiar enough with our church government to contribute to its disciplined processes? Do you consider difficult questions with an informed mind as well as a generous and loving spirit? Are you prepared to let your insights and personal wishes take their place alongside those of others or be set aside as the meeting seeks the right way forward? If you cannot attend, uphold the meeting prayerfully.
