Gresford Portishead Weaverham Wethersfield Wooburn
|
On At All Saint's Gresford, North Wales we are nearing
completion of a project to install four new bells which are tuned to create a
light ring of eight bells when rung with the front four of our existing
eight. A full report will be made to the Ringing World when final adjustments
to the acoustics of the tower are complete. We are pleased to report however
that the objective of the project 'The encouragement of young people to
become bell ringers' is well in hand By making use of our new bells and
the Sherbourne Teaching-aids Bell Club scheme we now have four new ringers
under the age of 11 years who have been awarded the Blue Badge (Ambitious
Apprentice) The names of our first new recruits are Ben Gregory, Harry Jones,
Hannah Jones and Rhys Evans in order as shown left to right in the attached
picture (sorry I’ve currently lost ability to post
pictures here, but will appear in RW, Pam.) They are all to be congratulated |

October 2005, Jan Wyatt, Deputy Tower Captain and proud Grandma
emailed: " My Grandson George Wyatt has just been awarded his first
bell club badge (ambitious apprentice). He is 8 years old (9 on 22nd Oct) and
rings at Portishead. He went to The Ringing World Roadshow and had a really
brilliant day. With help he had a ring on all of the mini rings and
thoroughly enjoyed himself. His memento of the day was a tiny sally to use as
a light pull. He took it to school as his news item along with a CD of
ringing. George loves ringing and would be delighted to see his name in the
Ringing World. |

Claire Thomson emailed Jan 05: "a photograph of recent badge-earners at St Mary's Weaverham, Cheshire: L to R: Lizzie Hampson, Louise Bird, Sarah Berry, Rosie Hampson Arianna McNamara. All have been learning for between 1 and 3 years and the rest of the band would like to congratulate them all on their achievements. They are all regular Sunday service ringers and their dedication is admirable and very much appreciated - well done! They are also all in the same class at school! |

John Walton, Ringing Master, Wooburn Bucks emailed Jan 05: "I am delighted to be able to let you know that Ruth Berry of Wooburn has achieved the necessary standard to qualify for her Happy Hunter green badge. Ruth is a very reliable member of the novice band of ringers at Wooburn and despite recently sitting her mock GCSE exams she has made time in recent months to attend her first Branch youth practice and the rededication of JJ Parker's grave at Farnham Royal (as featured in the Ringing World of 31 December 2004), ring her first quarter on the tenor and write out plain hunt on 7 in a quiet moment during Maths! Rarely photographed, here she is (on the right) with fellow Wooburn ringers Claire, Alice and Catherine on top of the Carfax tower (6 bells) on a windy day in Oxford. In the background is Christ Church College (more bells, including Great Tom!) which has featured in the filming of the Harry Potter films" |
