SHERBOURNE TEACHING-AIDS
from our Roving Correspondents

around Pershore, Worcs.

We joined the Todenham ringers' outing last Saturday. A good day out, ending up with a meal at The Trumpet, Evesham and then joining the Four Shires' Guild evening meeting at The Bell Tower.

THIS (the diamond shape) is a view of the underside of the floor of the (in)famous ringing chamber in Pershore Abbey, as seen looking upwards from ground level. Close scrutiny will reveal the open iron access staircase on the right. Its quite exciting...

There's a better photo and more information on the Pershore Abbey Website but do use your back browser to come back here when you've been there!

  Some of us crept away for a cup of tea to steady our nerves. Where? Steve and Giles' handsome cafe The Abbey Tea Rooms, Broad Street, Pershore of course.

In the evening we enjoyed the magnificent twelve bells in Evesham Bell Tower, bells which inspired this poem...

GLORIOUS TINTINABULATION

Listen! Heavenly spheres are singing,

Earthen cast in cope and core;

Molten mix of tin and copper

Now resounding evermore.

Golden chains of thronging music

Climb the space 'twixt earth and sky;

Elemental call to worship,

Lifting hearts to God on high.

Ringers work their permutations -

Martha's task, a duty done -

Theirs the privilege, the pleasure;

Time-formed practice handed on.

Listen - still the bells are ringing -

Glorious tintinabulation!
