Simultaneous sponsored Quarters OUTLINE: Make a list of every ringer you know who can call a quarter peal. Select a date and time (we found that 5pm on a Saturday was quite a good time). Approach each of your conductors nicely(!), and ask if they would like to participate in this Simultaneous Quarter Peal Challenge. Perhaps you could dress it up as a record-breaking attempt for your Branch or Association: the most simultaneous quarters ever rung in ... Prepare and send a letter to each participating conductor asking each to formally book a tower and assemble the necessary number of ringers. (Give at least 3 months notice, and remind them that everyone else will be bagging towers and ringers too so do it quickly!). Make a nice poster designed on your computer and printed off or photocopied one copy for each conductor. 'Participate in a Simultaneous Sponsored Quarter Peal Challenge (optional 'the greatest number ever rung in ...') on (e.g.) Saturday 20th October 2001 at 5pm. Help raise money to restore the fine old bells of St Whoevers Church' . The following ringers ....will attempt a quarter peal of ... at ....church and invite your sponsorship. Leave room for their conductor to fill in the details of his / her band and tower. Set out below the necessary rows for sponsors to sign and pledge their money. Ask each conductor then to photocopy or scan duplicates of this poster for each of his participating ringers to use for sponsor collecting. Alternatively ringers who abhor collecting sponsor money might be invited to consider throwing in say £5 or £10. Arrange with the conductors that you will send all the quarters up to RW, together with a donation of course, and a story of what was achieved, so that participants can see the result of their generosity. (And a gauntlet might be thrown down for other organisers?!) INCOME AND EXPENDITURE 20 x 6 bell quarters=120 ringers at £10=£1200, less cost of printing, postage and RW donation...?! |
