THE BY-PASS NATURAL HISTORY

A429

(map will go here)

The by-pass was opened 20 June 1990, a brand new road to relieve the centre of the village from increasing traffic. With the M40, and the development of the Transport Park on the airfield it came none too soon. Our village has been given back its heart.

Constructed as a 2 way road, not a dual carriageway, the by-pass is 2km long. It has 3 roundabouts (Charlecote Road, Stratford Road and Loxley Lane, and one 'T' junction access (Ettington Road).

There is one road bridge, over the River Dene.

The by-pass verges are fairly wide, with several cuttings and embankments. There is no pavement, but walkers have worn a slight footpath along the eastern side. There is no cycle track.

Sloping tracks run down the western verge, to both banks of the river, at the bridge. These give access to the public footpath system. There is also a short and usually impassable section of footpath behind the southern hedge on the Charlecote road.
