Grassmayr Bell Foundry in Innsbruck

We had a holiday at Igls, just above Innsbruck in May 1998 and paid a second visit to the very busy Glockengiesserie Grassmayr (Bell Foundry) in Leopoldstrasse 53, A-6010 Innsbruck. They have a long tradition of casting church bells and are also very active in supplying equipment to the Fire Service.

Visitors can look through a viewing window into the casting workshop where big bells are made. There is a most comprehensive and interesting museum and every Friday the public can watch small bells being cast - most fascinating, but don't rush away when the crowd go, stay and watch the previous castings being opened out.

The museum yard, lined with historic bells.

The works yard where I am standing beside the tenor of a huge beautiful new ring of 12 all wrapped up in clingfilm, for a church in Croatia,!
