ORDER OF SERVICE
Almighty and most merciful Father; we have erred and strayed from thy ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against thy holy laws. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; and we have done those things which we ought not to have done; and there is no health in us. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us miserable offenders. Spare thou them which confess their faults. Restore thou them that are penitent; according to thy promises declared unto mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord. And grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake; that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to the glory of thy holy Name. Amen.
4. Absolution
5. Psalm No. 150
O praise God in his holiness : praise him in the firmament of his power.
Praise him in his noble acts : praise him according to his excellent greatness.
Praise him in the sound of the trumpet : praise upon the lute and harp.
Praise him in the cymbals and dances : praise him upon the strings and pipes.
Praise him upon the well-tuned cymbals : praise. him upon the loud cymbals.
Let everything that hath breath : praise the Lord.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son : and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be: world without end
Amen.
6. Old Testament Lesson Micah Ch.4 vs 1-7
7. Magnificat
My soul doth magnify the Lord: and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
For he hath regarded : the lowliness of his handmaiden.
For behold from henceforth : all gencrations shall call me blessed.
For he that is mighty hath magnied me : and holy is his Name.
And mercy is on them that fear him : throughout all generations.
He hath shewed strength with his arm: he hath scattered the proud, in the imagination of their hearts.
He hath put down the mighty from their seat : and hath exalted the humble and meek.
He hath filled the hungry with good things : and the rich he hath sent empty away.
He remembering his mercy : hath holpen his servant Israel.
10. As he promised to our forefathers: Abraham and his seed for ever.
Gloria .
8. New Testament Lesson Philippians Ch.4 vs 4-9
9. Dedication of the Bells
We give thanks for the witness of the six bells which have been heard in this parish over the years, and now in the faith of Jesus Christ and to the glory of God we dedicate these two new bells in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
10. Nunc Dimittis
Lord now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace: according to thy word.
For mine eyes have seen thy salvation : which thou hast prepared before the face of all people.
To be a light to lighten the Gentiles : and to be the glory of thy people lsrael.
Gloria.
11. The Apostles Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth: and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried. He descended into hell: the third day he rose again from the dead, He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty: from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy Catholic Church; the Communion of Saints; the Forgiveness of sins; the Resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
12. Priest: The Lord be with you Ans. And with thy spirit. Let us pray. Lord, have mercy upon us. Christ have mercy upon us Lord, have mercy upon us.
13 The Lords Prayer.
14. Priest. O Lord, shew thy mercy upon us. Ans. And grant us thy salvation. O Lord, save the Queen. And mercifully hear us when we call upon thee. Endue thy ministers with righteousness. And make thy chosen people joyful. O Lord, save thy people And bless thine inheritance. Give peace in our time O Lord. Because there is none other that fighteth for us, but only thou, O God. O God, make clean our hearts within us. And take not thy holy spirit from us.

This service replicates that of Tuesday 13 December 1904 when the ring of six bells, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. newly cast from older bells with additional metal, two others re-tuned and a heavier tenor added and all put in a strong iron frame, replacing the old wooden furniture, was dedicated by Canon T Rivington, Vicar of St Mary's church, Warwick.. By a lucky chance a double sided sheet of paper with a hand-written account of this service has survived. Sadly no printed order of service is known to us although we do have one from the dedication of the clock with chimes and of the treble bell on Monday April 5th 1891 (at 2.40p.m !) We hope that we can include the contemporary account of the 1904 service in the Parish Magazine. It is a fascinating piece of history and one gets a real feeling for the village from it.

Robert Harvey was born in Whichford in 1918 and has lived and farmed in the village all his life. A ringer since 1931, he took over as Tower Captain in 1993. Under his enthusiasm the tower has been restored, the ringing revitalised and the bells augmented to eight. The treble bears the inscription Robert Harvey gave me, and the cast date 19-6-1998 was his eightieth birthday |
|
The two beautiful new 1998 trebles were displayed in the church at Whichford during the Flower Festival
There was also an exhibition of photographs of the casting
Rob Harvey is here pictured showing them to Pam Copson |
