Cottage Farm Under 8 Blues
Reports:
12/5/2006 - Cottage Farm U8 Blues 4 - 2 Wood End
“The U8 Blues went into today’s game against Wood End Tigers already knowing they had secured the Vinnie Garratt Memorial Trophy. But the boys wanted to finish the season in style, by achieving the ultimate in U8’s football. By beating every one of the Final Round teams and confirming that they are one of the very best U8’s in the Tamworth Junior League. The boys have worked extremely hard in training and the results they have achieved this season are testament to how dedicated they have been in the training environment, and that coupled with a desire to improve individually and collectively has resulted in the achievements they have secured.
Wood End came to the game in party mood, having already exceeded there expectations in qualifying for the final round, and they did, on the evidence of both the original league game and the Vinnie Garratt game fully deserve to be there.
Wood End started the game the brighter and better and deservedly took the lead. This woke up the mighty Blues and they began to show glimpses of the “Brazil-like” football they have produced so often this season. Cottage equalised through a Frazer Beglin strike following good work by Haden Smith. Wood End continued to press and again took the lead from a cross which was turned into his own net by the unlucky Stuart Moore. This stirred the lads into action and saw them get their passing game into full flow. Move after move resulted in the Wood End goalkeeper producing some good saves to keep the rampant Blues at bay. A superb individual goal from Troy Jones levelled the scores at 2 – 2. Cottage then started to turn the screw, determined to finish the game in style, and two thunderbolts from the impressive Stuart Moore, the second goal of which would win a Premiership Goal of the Season Award secured a 4 – 2 win for Cottage Farm Blues. Full credit to the players and management of Wood End who played superbly well and fully deserved something from the game but it was the Blues who finished off their season by being presented with the Vinnie Garratt Memorial Trophy by Tamworth Junior League Secretary, Leslie Johnson.
The Blues stats in the Final round of the Vinnie Garratt Memorial Trophy read: P5 – W5 – D0 – L0 – GF 13 – GA 6 – PTS 15.”
