Cottage Farm Ladies
28th August 2006
The Ladies spent their Bank Holiday Monday playing a return cricket match against Cannock Ladies football team. After last year's close game, Cannock wanted revenge but a very good all round performance by the Cottage Farm Ladies proved too strong on the day.
Cannock batted first, but a steady stream of wickets saw the run rate kept down and with all the bowlers bowling some good deliveries (as well as some not so good!) Cannock struggled. Vicky Roe was the pick of the bowlers with 4 wickets, backed up by Hannah Barratt with 2 and Vicky Cobb, Hannah (Spanna) Granville and Steph Parker with 1 each and a good quick throw in by Zoe Pugh led to a good run out.
After losing Vicky Cobb early on to a very good ball, Cottage were never in any trouble. Vicky Roe was in awesome form before and after the break due to the rain when tea was taken. Her innings of 36 not out included 1 six and 6 fours in a cultured display of legside hitting. She was ably assisted by Zoe Pugh as Cottage coasted home in 5 overs.
The cricket was followed by a couple of games of rather competitive rounders which ended up at one game each. As I don't know who scored or even the rules I can't tell you who scored what but both teams enjoyed themselves as did the spectators who joined in.
Again, a very good day enjoyed by all. Many thanks to Cannock Ladies football club and Cannock and Rugeley Cricket Club for their hospitality.
