Sunday 16th September 2007 - Willenhall 2 - 3 Cottage Farm Ladies
Rangers were on top of this game at the start, and went ahead after 8 minutes, with a superb solo goal from Gemma Fennell. The game was end to end. Willenhall were getting the better of the game, and after 30 minutes, equalised. Rangers were then hit again just before half time.
Rangers raised their game in the second half and had 3 or 4 chances to equalise, but on the hour Gemma Fennell got her second goal, thanks to a superb run from Anna Kelly. Again it was end to end football, and on 80 minutes another run from Anna Kelly, found Gemma Fennell, who squared the ball across the box for Holly Dearn to score. Rangers were then put under a lot of pressure for the last 10 minutes, as Willenhall went all out for the equaliser, only some excellent work from the back 4 and 2 great saves from Alex Dockray, kept them out.
This was without doubt Rangers best performance for a long time, and with 4 key players still missing, they should be able to go from strength to strength, although I think the manager will need to replace his Pacemaker before the end of the season.
Players of the match; Anna Kelly and Gemma Fennell.
Sunday 2nd September 2007 - Tamworth Ladies 2 - 3 Cottage Farm Ladies
For their opening game of the season, Rangers took on local rivals Tamworth. Rangers took a long time to get into the game, and after 17 minutes, found themselves 2 goals down. Rangers managed to get a goal back just on half time, with a good finish from just inside the box by Zoe Pugh.
Second half, Rangers looked more in control, but a stubborn Tamworth defence held out until 15mins from time, when Gemma Fennell, on her debut for Rangers, hit a low drive into the corner of the net after good link up play with Zoe Pugh. The last 15 minutes were all Rangers, but as the game looked as though it was heading for a draw, some good play from the back saw the ball passed out to Kirsty Gardner who pushed a good ball in to Gemma Fennell who unselfishly squared the ball to Zoe Pugh to slot home with only 30 seconds left on the clock. The game was a credit to both teams.
