07/01/2004 - HAPPY NEW YEAR FOR SCHOOLS FOOTBALL IN TAMWORTH

Belgrave High School and Cottage Farm Rangers are awarded £222,845 grant from the Football Foundation for pitch drainage.

For Further Information Please contact Simon Taylor on 020 7 534 4280

Pupils at the Belgrave High School were celebrating a great start to the New Year, thanks to a massive £222,845 grant from the Football Foundation, the UK’s largest sports charity.

Local MP Brian Jenkins will present a ceremonial cheque on behalf of the Foundation to the school at 10am on Friday 9 January at their Birds Bush Road site, Tamworth, B77 2NE.

The cash boost, part of the Foundation’s and the New Opportunities Fund’s £30m commitment of National Lottery money to school football facilities, will fund a pitch drainage programme for the school’s existing seven pitches which have recently suffered from excessive flooding, resulting in half of all matches being cancelled.

The newly improved pitches will also be made available to the wider community and to neighbouring schools, offering a much needed boost to the game in Tamworth. 800 boys, 625 girls, 45 males and 50 women plus disabled users will soon have access to the site. The site will also become a home for local club Cottage Farm Rangers FC, who, thanks to the Foundation cash, will be able to expand to accommodate over 200 players of all ages and abilities.

The Foundation is dedicated to revitalising the grass roots of the game, constructing modern football facilities, developing football as a force for social cohesion and as a vehicle for education in communities throughout the country. Funded by the Premier League, the Football Association and the Government, the Football Foundation is the nation's largest sports charity with £88 million already invested into the heart of football.

Foundation Chief Executive Peter Lee welcomed this cash boost for schools:
“Children deserve the opportunity to expand their potential, not necessarily to be the best, but simply to enjoy our nation’s favourite game. This massive funding package will go a long way to ensuring the next generation of footballers have access to some of the most modern facilities the game has to offer. Sport, particularly football, can play a huge part in encouraging healthier lifestyles, enhancing personal development and acting as an aid for learning.”

Richard Mountford, Headteacher of Belgrave High School said
"I am delighted that we have secured such a massive boost to community use of our football facilities. I am extremely grateful to the Football Foundation for its support. We can now look forward to footballing activities all year round for a lot more people".

Stephen Dunmore, Chief Executive of the New Opportunities Fund, said:
"This new grant will make a real difference for young people by giving them improved football facilities through which they can build a strong foundation for a healthier lifestyle. I look forward to seeing the Fund's PE and Sport programme, through the Football Foundation, have a positive impact on broader community issues across education, health and social inclusion by encouraging participation in sport."

18/11/2003 - On Monday 17th November 2003 Roger White, Club Chairman, and myself attended Britannia Stadium, home of Stoke City, to receive an achievement certificate from Sport Across Staffordshire. Along with awards to other sports the club was recognised for its achievement on being a Charter Standard Club and setting standards for Girls football in particular. So well done to all those involved in the running of the club. However we must not rest on our laurels lets now push on and achieve the Community Award certificate now. Additionally any one wishing to take a more active roll in the running of the club please do not be afraid to step forward. Whether to coach or just help in the general running of the club your input would be more than welcome. Bob Bynt, Hon.Secretary.

10/08/2003 - Yesterday, seven members of Cottage Farm Rangers passed their assessments to gain the 1st4sport Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Football. The average temperature over the 5 days was 33 degrees Celsius which made it particularly hard work. The seven people were chairman Roger White, secretary Bob Bynt, Eddie Edwards, Mark Cox, Ami Waller, Zoe Pugh and Stephanie Parker. Congratulations to all of you.
