'Gunther', Gebirgsjager, Caucasus, 1942

Star Rating:

German Mountain Trooper (Gebirgsjager) "Gunther" represents 'Operation Edelweiss' and the drive to capture Soviet oilfields in 1942. He is dressed in a standard German field gray tunic with national and unit markings (no trousers though). Equipment includes a belt, green bread bag, ammo pouches, K98 rifle and 2 water bottles. Unique to the Gebirgsjager Divisions and supplied with Gunther are the windproof grey "anorak" (a reversible woolen hooded pullover jacket) with matching trousers, a "Bergmutze" mountain cap with Edelweiss badge, and rugged mountain boots. Equipment also includes a standard issue 'shelter quarter' container that fits into one of the many anorak pockets and a sturdy ice axe.

Review

A really nice addition to the German line of figures. The uniform is the standard Dragon early pattern Wermacht uniform with green collar as supplied with previous figures but with edelweiss badge to added right arm and the cap.

The windproof over jacket and trousers are new and are very nicely made and detailed. The only problem with the over jacket is that it is such a tight fit that I found it impossible to get it on the figure over the tunic! In the end I gave up and took off the tunic completely and left it off.

The head sculpt is new and is ok.

Equipment is again standard issue with the addition for this figure of the shelter quarter and the ice axe.

A version dressed in white camouflage over jacket and trousers is available.

Overall: A  figure worth adding to your collection.
