The
figure is intended to represent a typical soldier of the German
Army during the Wehrmacht period. There
are some high points with this figure as well as some lows! First the
high points:
At last there is not one inch of crappy
elastic to be found on this figure!!
The finish on all the uniform, equipment and
accessories is first rate as is usual from Dragon. The steel helmet is
metal and has a working buckle. The tunic features the belt support
system as on the 1:1 and has cloth shoulder boards secured with minute
nuts and bolts!
Also included is a great coat that also has provision
for cloth shoulder boards but alas only one pair is provided.
The black leather belt is the new type with
functional buckle.
Dragon has also included the distinctive German fur
covered Tonnister (backpack) and in my opinion it is a work of art.
The K98 features the now standard working bolt action
but has the addition of a more accurate sling adjuster instead of the
huge silver buckle (about time!).
The entrenching tool carrier is made of black leather
like material and is pretty good with a working buckle and strap
to hold the entrenching tool. At last the gas mask can has webbing
straps.
There are many other good things about the figure but
lets not labour the point.
Now for the nit picking....
The Y straps are the standard plastic type. On this
point there is no adjustment on the smaller straps that hold the back
pack and it is impossible to fit the pack on with the figure wearing the
great coat.
Why only
one set of shoulder boards?
Overall: This is a reasonable figure with a lot of
work going into some, minor, details producing a good addition to the
WWII German line. There has I think been some penny pinching but the end
result is a nice figure. Value for money? Not really convinced that
minute and sometimes invisible details justifies the high price. Lets
see what Soldat 02 brings. |
