Health and Safety issues for users.

[A condition of hire is that the hirer agrees to follow the requirements below]

Every effort has been made to provide, as far as is reasonably practicable, a safe environment within the confines of Hopehill.

A series of Risk Assessment sheets and User Guidelines have been produced in an attempt to cover all activities you may wish to undertake at Hopehill. These will be kept in the Site Office and can be made available by the Duty Warden. Please refer to these to ensure you are conforming to all requirements. Areas covered are/will be : campfires, cooking fires, pioneering, push-ball, altar fires, use of trolleys. The safe operation of this type of activity/equipment will be the responsibility of the Hirer.

Specific health and safety rules apply to the climbing tower and rifle range and hirers will be informed of these by the instructor in charge. If the Hirer is providing their own qualified person for the range or tower then the onus is on the Hirer to ensure that person is aware of his/her duties and responsibilities and a copy of the qualification must be presented with the booking.

Leaders in charge of visiting groups are required to familiarise themselves with the safety and emergency procedures relevant to the areas and activities they will use.

Leaders should also ensure that all those in their care are adequately supervised and are made aware of action to be taken in the event of any emergency.

Within the buildings please familiarise yourselves with the health and safety requirements posted in the various areas e.g. emergency procedures in the event of fire, food preparation etc. and ensure all equipment is stored away from fire exits and a minimum of 3 metres from any source of combustion. No gas or flammable liquids are to be brought into the building.

Cleaning of facilities/equipment after use is the responsibility of the hirer who is to make sure all areas used are left in a clean and orderly condition. Cleaning equipment throughout the site is designated for particular areas and should only be used in that area. All rubbish should be sacked and placed in the bins in the car park. All cleaning materials are ‘domestic’ products and in the case of accident reference should be made to the labelling.

First aid provision is the responsibility of the hirer.

Under no circumstances should unauthorised people enter the workshop areas at the rear of the main building or other restricted parts.

The onus is on the hirer to ensure that equipment not supplied by Hopehill is both safe to use and appropriate for the purpose. The hirer should ensure that all activities they organise and carry out within the confines of Hopehill comply with POR and/or current Scout Association guidelines and will exercise control of those under his/her charge to ensure a safe environment.

Please report any faults to equipment, or improvements to facilities that could be made, to the duty warden.

Contact the duty warden for any further advice or assistance.

Think safe, play safe, stay safe and have a wonderful time at Hope Hill
