Jennifer Samper
I was
born in Whitstable, educated in Canterbury and
subsequently obtained teaching qualifications from the
Universities of London and Quebec. I began my teaching
career in 1959 and spent thirty-six years in my chosen
profession, teaching in the London Borough of Hayes,
Montreal, Canada and in Kent, retiring from my
position of Deputy Head at Herne Bay Junior School in
1995. My service in local government started in 1976
as one of the elected members for Swalecliffe and I
now serve as Councillor for Chestfield. During my time
as a member of Canterbury City Council I have served
on most of its committees and chaired the Housing and
Environment, Health and Policy Scrutiny Committees. I
served as Lord Mayor for 2 years, from 1999 to 2001.
