Truebsee

Today started bright and sunny but by 11am the rain had returned. We decided to walk in the Truebsee area. Leaving Engelberg we took the path from the Titlis Cable Car Valley Station via Hegmatt to Unter Truebsee. There is a restaurant here and a cable car to Ober Truebsee. The plan was to take the more attractive path to the west to Ober Truebsee but it was closed due to repair work. This meant that we had to take the vehicle track to the east. As we approached Truebsee it started to rain and by the time we were walking around the lake it was getting heavier.

On the path by the lake there are a lot of small signs with information on the various plants that live in the area. We found these interesting and helped to take our minds of the weather. From the lake we descended on the Rosswald path which zig zags below the cable cars before reaching the Gerschnialp area at Vorder Stafel. This is a much more attractive path (though a lot steeper) than the vehicle track we had used on the ascent. From Vorder Stafel (another cafe here) we took tracks and paths through the forest down to Banklialp and Engelberg.

The last two photos are extras from the last day of the holiday - when the weather turned damp again.

The wind and rain had made it very chilly - we had sheltered by a wooden building to put on much needed layers. Flickr

One of the pet marmots - surprisingly, although we heard a few, we only saw one wild marmot. Flickr
