Furenalp

Jackie was feeling better - a lovely walk. Unfortunately Dennis succumbed to the mystery illness the next day. Today's walk was the most enjoyable of the holiday. From Engelberg we walked past the Kloster and took the Meiland path to Horbis. From Horbis the path ascended through forest and open land to Ober Zieblen (1631m). This was a very pleasant ascent - it was suuny and warm and we had some lovely views. The path then contured across the slopes before descending into the impressive Dagenstal valley. The path climbed out of this valley through forest before levveling off to reach Furenalp (1842m). We could have got the cable car down into the valley from here but decided to extend the walk.

From Furenalp we descended to the hamlet of Abnet(1670m). There is a cafe here and they have their own cable car down to the valley. The cable car station is not manned but there is a phone there for you to summon help. We took the cable car (5 CHF each) down to Stafeli in the valley. We then walked down to Alpenrosli where we had drinks, and I also had a good sized portion of plum cake with cream. We then walked along the path on the south side of the river to Engelberg.

The lift belonged to the family - you needed some basic German to realise you needed to ring them to pop across to start the lift.
