A lovely balcony path, the Walenpfad
is another one of the themed walks in the area. There are excellent
views from the path and it is well worth doing.
You buy tickets at Engelberg railway station - train, bus and then cable car.
As we had the half price Swiss card it was about £10 each. The bus we had wanted to catch was an on
request but when we had called to check we got lost in a German answering service.
The staff at train station all spoke English well, so they rang for us.
On arriving at the bus in Wolfenschiessen we found we shared
it with a very large school party who haunted us
for the first few miles of the walk. They were fairly well behaved but very boisterous. The bus goes up
through the village of Oberrickenbach to the Fell cable car station. The cable car took us up to the
Chuzhutte.
From the Chuzhutte (1713m) the well marked path goes east above the Bannalpsee then up to the highest point
at Walegg (1943m) then starts to go south across the Walenalp to the viewing point at Rosenbold. There are
some ups and downs but the total ascent is less than 600m. From Rosenbold we walked down to Ristis and got
the cable car down.
