Mayrhofen Sonnalm Panorama

The forecast was correct and it would be a wet day. With this in mind we planned to do the panorama walk from the Sonnalm at the top of the Ramsberg lift back to Mayrhofen. This was mainly through forestry and on good paths and tracks. Although we didn't stop at any there are a number of alms en route where refreshments are served. Although a wet day we really enjoyed the walk as it gave us the chance to see and photograph Alpine salamanders and varios fungi. We were out for five hours and didn't see another hiker!

We caught the train from Mayrhofen to Ramsau/Hipppach and walked to the Ramsberg lift. It was raining and there wasn't anyone else around. Fortunately the lady in the booking office said it was running and immediately started the chair lift going. A 20 minute ride and only the two of us on it! We got off at the top - the Sonnalm.

From the Sonnalm it is a well signed route passing the Kotaalm and Karlalm before descending on forest paths to the Steinerkogelhaus. From here you can walk to the village of Brandberg and get thhe bus or do what we did and take the forest path descending steeply to Mayrhofen.
