Benicadell (1104m)

You are at: Home > Quatretondeta walks > Benicadell

Benicadell is a prominent limestone ridge which forms a physical boundary between the Valencia region to the north and the Alicante region to the south.

After a drive of some 50 minutes we arrived in the village of Gaianes, which is north of Quatretondeta. From Gaianes the first 200m of ascent is along a pleasant track, but this is followed by a very stiff ascent of over 1,000' on a steep rocky path, in order to gain the main ridge at a col at about 980m. From the col we walked west along a very pleasant balcony path, with lovely views over the flatter Valencia region

After a long amble on the balcony path we dropped down about 300m to a large track. We then walked east along the track before ascending a very pleasant path which took us up towards the summit of Benicadell (1104m). There was some scrambling required to gain this summit. There enjoyed the views noticing the marked difference between the flatter Valencia region and the mountaineous Alicante region.

After taking photos we followed a balcony path taking us back to the col, stopping off en route for lunch part two (late), and to visit another snow well / ice house - this one had an intact roof. From the col we retraced our steps back to Gaianes, enjoying the evening sunlight

A pause for views on the ascent.
Rest stop, taking advantage of shade.
