Neouvielle - Pic d'Aygues Cluses

This was our first walk of three in the Neouvielle Nature Reserve. This is a superb area for walking, and we had wonderful weather to enjoy it. The bus took us to the start of the walk at Lac D'Aubert (2148m).

From the lake we followed the GR10 path up to the Col de Madamete (2509m - one of the highest points on the GR10). On the way we had excellent views including the Pic de Neouvielle. At the Col de Madamete we took group photos of the 'British' and 'Americans'.

Descending north from the col on the Gr10 we reached the Cabane d'Aygues Cluses and stopped for lunch at the small lake nearby. From the lake we left the GR10 and followed a path up the valley that led to the Col de Bareges (2402m). From the col a few of us started up the path to the peak which ended with some scrambling along a ridge. George, Mark and Dennis continued up to the summit of the Pic d'Aygues Cluses (2620m).

From the Col de Bareges we took a path contouring below a ridge to Lac Superior and from there a path up to the Col d'Aumar. From the col we descended steeply to the Lac d'Aumar.

From the lake we followed the path and road back to the parking area by Lac d'Aubert. This was the last day's walk for all the guests except ourselves, it had been quite a tough walk, but we were rewarded with some superb views.
