Riffelalp and the Glacier Garden

You are at: Home > Zermatt walks > Riffelalp and the Glacier Garden

The weather had not improved - low cloud and rain again. From the hotel we walked to Winkelmatten and then followed the path up to the Riffelalp (2220m). There were very few people around, and even the five star Riffelapl Hotel seemed deserted.

We then took a 'balcony' path up to about 2300m before descending into the valley that runs to the south of the Gornergrat. Walking down the valley we reached the 'Glacier Garden', this is an area where the action of the glaciers and water have shaped the rocks. The Glacier Garden is free to go round and is worth a visit if you are walking in the area. We returned to the hotel via Schweigmatten, Moos and Winkelmatten.
