Abeno	47 Museum Street WC1A 1LY 020 7405 3211	Japanese Okonomiyaki (a sort of cabbage pancake) place close to the British Museum. Good value hearty food. Small, and popular, so booking is highly recommended.
Anda	66 Baker Street, W1	From the people who brought us Wagamama, this restaurant occupies the site vacated by Pizza Hut, so a marked improvement from the outset. Italian food of high quality, reasonable prices (pastas ca £8-10, main dishes £12-20, wine £15-30), good atmosphere, excellent service. No bookings.
Archipelago	020 7383 3346	The place to go for chocolate covered scorpion, peacock with vanilla salsa, candied ants or frog with cashews...
L'Autre		The Polish-Mexican restaurant with the French name. Great tiny restaurant in the heart of Shepherd Market.
Baltic	74 Blackfriars Road SE1 020 7928 1111	A modern Polish restaurant with excellent vodka bar, a stone's throw from Southwark tube.
Belgo's	Covent Garden and Chalk Farm	Frankly not as good as it once was, but still a good place for hearty Belgian food and a great selection of Belgian beers. Personally I wouldn't recommend the moules mariniere though - last time I had it it was frightfully bland.

Porter's		Traditional English food. Sadly the steak and kidney pudding I had last time was so filling I couldn't face the sticky treacle pudding for dessert, so I must go back sometime...

Quality Chop House		Does exactly what it says above the door! A good quality chop house at the top end of Farringdon Road. Go there for the traditional English food, not the comfortable seating (or you'll be disappointed)!

St John		Haven't been there myself, but I'm told it's offally good.
Soulard	113 Mortimer Road, N1 020 7254 1314	Traditional French bistrot, well worth seeking out. But book, as it's tiny, and a long way to go to find it's full!
Tartuf	88 Upper St Islington, N1 020 7288 0954	The only place I know in London for traditional Flammekueche. Check before going to make sure it's still there - its sister establishment in Clapham has closed again.
