Network Administrator / IT Support Technician (24 hour support)

01/05/98 - 12/05/00

I was the only IT based person at the hotel responsible for supporting 65 users on a Novell Intranetware 4.11 Network (SFTIII). Workstations varied from Dos, Windows 3.11 - 95 - 98. The hotel used a Property Management System called Lanmark which covered all aspects of the Front of house and Back of House computing needs, whilst they used a system called Squirrel for Food & Beverage and Check AI for purchasing / cost control. During the beginning of 1999 I was in charge of a £16,000 project to design a web site for the hotel and have it commissioned, I used to regularly update the site using Dreamweaver 3.0. The Hotel had been in the middle of an extensive refurbishment programme since the end of 1998 I had been in charge during all phases of the works in terms of relocation of IT equipment and any new elements required by the hotel. Other elements included implementing a completely new Network section which connected back to the main network using 4-core fibre optic cable. This also involved the relocation of various computer systems and telephones etc. I was also in charge of the telephone system (Siemens ISDX L) & Thorn Guestlink, which is a computer network, dedicated to the Television sets in each guestroom. I was appointed Year 2000-project leader at the start of 1999. We successfully declared ourselves Y2K compliant in September 1999. Other duties included file system maintenance (backups etc. Arcserve 6.1), email and web accounts, proxy server administration, product updates, server maintenance, cat 5 cabling, I also carried out basic internal computer training for staff to improve their IT skills, covering file maintenance (windows explorer), windows 95/98 basic functions (control panel etc..), office applications & network programs.
