07/09/03-

Bagshot got off to a disappointing start to the new campaign as none of the three sides managed to register an opening day win. The 1st's narrowly went down 2-1 at home to Bedfont Green when perhaps a draw would have been more of a fair result. A late penalty won the game for the team we pipped to the division one title last season.

Elsewhere the reserves despite an encouraging first half display went down 4-0 away at Bedfont reserves. After going down unluckily a goal at half time two early second half Bedfont goals proved too much in Ashley Bell's first game in charge.

This morning the Sunday side drew 1-1 at home to newly promoted Tivoli United. Bagshot took the lead when skipper for the day Eric Elliot fired home from outside the box. However a mix up between the keeper and defence let in Tivoli for an early second half equaliser and that's how it stayed.

Finally on a positive note the championship medals were finally handed out on Saturday evening to last seasons first team players. Training is as usual on Tuesday and Thursday this week commencing at 7pm.

We've a played a few games since the last update - a couple or reserve team friendlies against Englefield Green which ended in 2-2 draw's and 3-0 defeats respectively.

The Sunday team prepared for their forthcoming campaign with a midweek 5-1 thrashing of Knaphill WMC and a 4-4 draw against Egham Victoria in our annual fixture last Sunday.

This weekend see's the start of the season for all 3 teams.

At the weekend Bagshot went down 2-1 in a local derby against recentley demoted Lightwater United.

Despite dominating the game a soiltary Scott Brighty goal was all the yellow's had to show for their efforts. Lightwater seldom had a look in but sloppy defending proved costly and gave their neighbours a shock win.

Brett Wickens - added the second

Bagshot tonight defeated Hellenic outfit Englefield Green. Starting with their strongest XI Englefield Green started the better but were thawted by a mixture of strong defending and good goalkeeping. The breakthrough arrived halfway through the half when Gordon prodded home a scrappy corner from close range. Inspired by this Bagshot then dominated their higher ranked opponents and further goals from Eric Elliot and Brett Wickens following a good move ensured they went 3 up at the break.

At the start of the second half as in many of the pre-season games a different team appeared compromising of reserve's and trialists. This didn't stop Bagshot adding a 4th early on when Steve Obe was put clear and drilled low in the bottom right hand corner. Englefield Green hit back with 10min to go via a deflected free kick and added another with 2 to play after a corner wasn't cleared. Overall though it was another strong performance by the yellows following on from Saturdays 2-2 draw with a scratch side against Combined Counties opponents Chessington United. Both goals being scored by John Berry.

Shaggy, Pasley & Brighty - Tight at the back

Zane Wickens , Porty - Influential throughout

Bagshot tonight went down 3-2 away at Hartley Wintney in a friendly at the Memorial Ground. The Combined County Outfit dominated early proceedings and took an early lead - however Bagshot hit back when Brett Wickens was fouled in the box and John Berry converted the penalty. A superb volley just before half time restored the tangerines lead.

In the 2nd half Bagshot applied more pressure but couldn't convert the chances - Mid way though the half Wintney took a 3-1 lead after a long ball caused confusion in the Bagshot defence. However with 2 mins go go a superb cross by Kyle Merriman was neatly controlled and tucked away by Brett Wickens at the far post.

Once again we would like to thank Hartley Wintney for the fixture on what was a superb pitch and we wish them all the luck in the coming season.

04/08/03 -

A Strong Bagshot performance on Saturday saw the 1st team go down 2-1 to Hellenic outfit RS Basingstoke. Starting with the strongest XI Bagshot dominated the first half but went in 0-0 at the break knowing the game should have been out of site. Several changes were made in the second half as a mixture of reserve team players and trialists were given a run out - However Bagshot deservedly took the lead early on when Dean Wickens pounced on an uncharacteristic error by the Basingstoke keeper to put Bagshot 1 up. Basingstoke however hit back with 2 late goals to snatch victory when perhaps a draw would have been a fair reflection.

On behalf of the club I would like to thank Basingstoke for the fixture and wish them all the best in the coming season. We hope to play again next year.

Tomorrow night ( Tuesday ) see's the first team once again visiting higher rated opposition, this time in the form of much respected Combined Counties side Hartley Wintney. The match takes place at their home ground. Any supporters wishing to attend can obtain directions to the ground via our oppositions web site which is listed on this site.
