1998 - Invergarry to Shiel Bridge

An easy start along forestry commission tracks.

A pleasant river-side pitch with some rather low-lying clouds ahead.

The view from one of our pitches. It had started to rain as we climbed the hill and shortly after taking this photograph, the clouds came down reducing visibility to about 100 metres.

A remote and, despite the continuing overcast weather, extremely beautiful valley. The river was in spate and we spent several hours trekking up the valley until we could find a safe place to cross.

When everyone is out of sight in their tents with the flaps firmly closed, either it is raining or they are being plagued by the midges. In this particular case, there were both!

The overnight rain meant that the mountain streams were in full spate the following day

Whilst the first half of the week was overcast and wet, the weather changed and we enjoyed bright sunshine and clear skies for the rest of the trip.

A pleasant walk along one of the glens, this one had a rough track which eventually petered out at a derelict bothy.

The panoramic view looking east from the coast at Shiel Bridge.

The Caravan Club campsite at Morvich (near Shiel Bridge) welcomes tent campers as well as caravans and provided an excellent final pitch with drying rooms and all facilities.

The Kintail Lodge Hotel at Shiel Bridge where we met up with other club members for a convivial meal before heading for home.

This view of the sunset over the loch by the hotel provided a fitting end to yet another fabulous backpacking week in the Scottish Highlands.
