Liquorpond Surgery

History and Introduction

The practice was started in the late 19th Century by a Dr Pilcher whose son and grandson took over the practice in turn. The grandson left after a short period of time to work as a Surgeon. The practice was originally sited at 75 High Street, Boston and moved to its present site in 1955. The premises have been enlarged on several occasions as the practice has grown in size and most latterly in 1968, 1985 and a major enlargement in 1990 when the Practice became a first wave fundholding practice until fundholding finished on 31st March 1999.

The practice has grown over the years and is now the largest practice in Boston with 10,800 patients and five full time NHS GP principals working with the rest of a Primary Health Care Team from this site including District Nurses, a Midwife, Health Visitors, Practice Nurses, Managers and staff. 36 members of staff now work from the Surgery. We are a Postgraduate training practice for the University of Nottingham, training doctors wishing to enter General Practice and also an Undergraduate training practice for Medical Students from the Imperial College School of Medicine, a college of the University of London.

After working in the practice for 39 years our Senior Partner Dr BEP Wookey has retired in early 2002. His interest in medicopolitics and the development of healthcare locally is continuing in his new post as Chairman of the East Lincolnshire Primary Care Trust.

Our ethos is to be committed to providing good family health care in the NHS and to provide as caring and efficient a service as possible.
