Toseland

1800 - ???

This part of the family has appeared quite recently, up to now I only knew of a Jane Toseland who married one of the Mitchells in Little Harrowden.

Then an apparently abortive request on the Roots - L list ( the original US. list) came up with a contact in the Toseland Clan Society - who have passed a tremendous amount of information on this family line.

The Toseland (and variants) name apparently comes from a small village in Cambridgeshire, spreading across most of the East Midland counties of England, some of the dates in the tree I was given seemed a bit 'Wobbly' - Mother apparently having children in their 50s - possibly a missing generation (or two).

My mother has a letter from a Toseland descendant in the US sent to my Great Grandfather who refered to him as Cousin, this link doesn't appear in the info received so something is a little awry.

A recent Toseland gathering in Little Harrowden confirmed the discrepancies. I now have William's (Jane's father's) parents who were a Samuel Toseland & Sarah, William was born in Isham, a couple of miles from Little Harrowden. Samuel married Sarah in the village of Wargrave several miles distant.

I'll update the tree sometime soon - when I have further details on Samuel & Sarah.

The name Toseland is sometimes spelt Tosland or Tozeland, depending on who was writing it down
