These pictures were taken at the Edinburgh Butterfly Kingdom. Butterflies are frustrating to photograph as they are seldom as motionless as these ones here. You compose your picture, focus, set your exposure and just as you are about to release the shutter, they fly off!

I had a bit of luck on this occasion as one of the staff was releasing some butterflies which had just emerged from their cocoons. As their wings were not yet hard enough for flight I had time to get some pictures.

If you live in central Scotland I would recommend the Edinburgh Butterfly Kingdom for a great family day out.

If you are taking your camera you must allow 20 to 30 minutes for your lens to clear of condensation as the humidity is tropical..... wear a t-shirt!
