EuroCis 2000 rally

Thurmansbang

Located about 200km NE of Münich near the Czech border and about 30km north of Passau (which is close to the Austrian border) this is the area that hosts the Elefant Treffen every winter when around 10,000 motorcyclists from all over Europe 'invade' the area.

The Bayerische Wald used to be a popular tourist area for the German public some years ago but with the advent of 499DM flights to Mallorca it´s not that popular anymore. So there´s a lot of tourist infrastructure without the normal German prices and it´s not too overcrowded too.

The landscape is mostly hilly (this based on the EEC definition of what constitutes mountains <g>), going rather flat in the direction of Munich and higher in the direction of the Czech. Republic. A lot of well paved smaller roads lead up and down the hills and make motorcycle sightseeing a lot of fun. Daytrips to Passau, Regensburg, into Czech or Austria are easy, since the A3 motorway is within 15 minutes drive from the hotel.

The hotel itself suits the place. It´s not really modern, but clean and motorcycle friendly. The reception is speaking English, which isn´t necessarily the case in all other places around. Cooking is robust, not subtle but good country fare. You´ll find people being generally motorcycle friendly all around. They´re used to a crowd a lot worse than we are from when the Elefant treffen is on <g>.

Of course the end of september is also the time of the Oktoberfest, this year being the 167th and is from 16th Sept to 3rd Oct.

How much
Prices are DM 50 (currently 16.45 UKP) per night with breakfast, 62 DM (20.39 UKP) with an additional 3 course evening meal. 7 DM (2.30 UKP) more for single bedrooms, that are only available in limited quantity.

The Rally Meister this year is Martin Hildebrandt, anyone interested in attending should contact him.  .
