Apparently several colleagues received email notices to visit the "amicus.cc" website in order to view two 'new' items.

Lucy Kelly

At this time no application for voluntary redundancy has been received from Lucy, and she remains an employee of the union. Lucy's car is still within the Amicus pool and is insured, taxed and serviced under our contract with Lex Vehicle Leasing.

In short the article on the website is entirely speculative and false.

Appointment of a National Officer

The second issue raised is a letter sent by the Construction NIC expressing a number of dissenting points following an internal circular requesting applicants for appointment to replace a former National Officer created recently vacancy arising from a voluntary redundancy.

In the letter it is suggested that following the Rule amendment introducing the election of officials, appointing a successor to Paul Corby is prohibited and there must be an election.

If that were so we would be in the ridiculous position of trying to reduce our complement through voluntary redundancies only to be faced with having to elect replacements!

Removing the ability to cover gaps left by voluntary redundancy by filling them from within the existent workforce would make a mockery of our attempts to balance the finances of the union.

I will be taking this matter up with the Construction NIC following which the NEC will bejgiving
consideration to how things will proceed thereafter.                                                                   ~

Colleagues may wish to reflect on how these two matters have been 'reported' by this website.  On the one hand a completely fabricated story and on the other a private letter sent to me by a NIC (incidentally by recorded delivery) reproduced in a manner that can only suggest it was supplied to the website in order to create a reaction out with the procedures of the union.
