MEMORANDUM

General Secretary's Office

To                     All Amicus Officers & Staff

From                Derek Simpson, General Secretary

Date                 20th June 2005

Les Bayliss

I have today suspended Les in order that an investigation can be held into certain matters. Ed Sweeney and Tony Dubbins have once again kindly consented to carry out the necessary enquiries, and I trust anyone asked to help in the investigation will give their full co-operation.

I would emphasise to avoid pointless speculation that the matters under consideration have no connection whatsoever with the investigations following the suspension of Lucy Kelly.

Whilst all allegations need to be taken seriously no officer or member of staff should take the investigation as an inference that the allegations are substantiated.

Les has been asked not to make any contact with any employee of the union or to discuss with anyone the matters under investigation. Likewise it would be appreciated if everyone would refrain from contacting Les.

I also anticipate that the investigation will be carried out as speedily as possible without compromising the thoroughness needed.

DEREK SIMPSON

General Secretary
